What Type Of Wax Is Used In Salt City Candles?

Salt City Candles are made using a unique triple blend of highly refined paraffin and soy waxes that surpass the burning and fragrance performance of other brands.  All waxes are of food-grade quality, which helps ensure a much cleaner burn.  Salt City Candle's wax formula allows it to hold a higher percentage of fragrance.

What Types Of Fragrance Oils Are Used In Salt City Candles?

Salt City Candle uses a top quality blend of both natural and synthetic fragrance oils in their candle products.  The oils are concentrated to create a more intense fragrance.

Does Salt City Candle Use Lead Wicks?

Absolutely Not! Salt City Candle is dedicated to providing top quality products, and have never used lead wicks in any of their products.  The health and wellbeing of our customers is paramount.  Salt City Candle is committed to staying up to date on information regarding consumer health and safety.  Salt City Candle uses zinc core wicks that are 100% lead free.  Zinc Core Wicks tend to burn hotter and more evenly than cotton wicks and create less soot.

Why Is It Important To Discard My Candle When A Half Inch Of

As the flame nears the base of the jar, the wax is nearly or completely melted.  At this point the glass can become extremely hot.  Although Salt City Candle uses heat-tempered glass, there is still a risk that the glass can become so hot that it can damage furniture beneath the base or even crack or pop.  If the directions are followed properly, the risk of cracking or breaking can or will be avoided.  Salt City Candle strongly recommends placing candles on a heat-resistant surface such as a candleholder.

Why Is It Important To Keep My Wicks Trimmed?

If wicks are not trimmed properly, there is a tendency for a mushroom of carbon to form at the top of the wick causing the candle to smoke.  Keeping the wick trimmed to 1/4 inch will minimise smoking and sooting and ensure a more even burn.  Extinguish the candle flame in the melted pool of wax using a Salt City Candle Wick Dipper & straighten the wick.  Trim the wick to 1/4 inch (remove any trimmings or other materials from wax) and relight.  Extinguishing the flame in the melted wax makes the wick easier to relight and the wonderful fragrance of the candle will not be compromised.

Why Are Salt City Candle Products So Popular?

Salt City Candle products are popular and gaining ground in the gift market because they produce the most fragrant scented candles on the market.  The unqiue wax formulation allows higher levels of fragrance oils to be used per candle.  This formulation burns cleaner and lasts longer than other soft wax candles.  Salt City Candle is dedicated to selecting only the best and truest fragrances.  Salt City Candle also offers one of the largest collections.  Whether you prefer the scent of fruit, floral or spice, Salt City Candle has a fragrance to fit you.

Are scented candles safe?

Yes. Decades of research and a history of safe use in the marketplace support the safety of fragrances in candles.

A well-made candle produces water vapor and carbon dioxide when properly burned; the only difference with a scented candle is that a small amount of fragrance is also released. Reputable candle manufacturers use only fragrances approved for candle use, and test their candles to ensure a clean and proper burn.

Do scented candles soot more than unscented candles?

Although the oils found in certain fragrances may slightly increase the small amount of soot that a candle may produce, a well-formulated scented candle will burn cleanly and will not produce any significant amount of soot. As with any candle, the primary factors that cause sooting are flame instability and a too-long wick, not fragrance or color or wax type.

Are scented candles that use essential oils safer?

No. A natural ingredient is not necessarily any safer than a manufactured or synthesized ingredient, and some essential oils are extremely toxic to humans in very small amounts. We are committed to using fragrances that are safe and approved for use in candles, whether "natural" or synthesized.

Is there such a thing as too much fragrance in a candle?

Yes. For every candle formulation, there is a maximum amount of fragrance that can be added before the candle will no longer burn properly. Salt City carefully monitor the addition of fragrances to ensure that their scented candles will burn cleanly and safely. Too much fragrance, or fragrances not approved for candle use can lead to improper burn performance or excess sooting.

Arefragrances in scented candles tested for health effects?

Health and safety studies are conducted for fragrance materials, including toxicological and dermatological tests. The Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM) tests individual fragrance materials, develops testing protocols, and collects fragrance safety data from around the world. RIFM submits its finding to the International Fragrance Association, which establishes safety guidelines and standards for fragrance manufacturers worldwide.

Do scented candles emit dangerous amounts of toxic pollutant

No. A properly-formulated candle, whether scented or unscented, will primarily produce water vapor and carbon dioxide when burning correctly. While microscopic amounts of organic compounds or special ingredients used to formulate a particular scented candle may be released when a candle is burned, they are too minimal to pose a health risk.

Are scented candles triggers for asthma and allergies?

Millions of people, including allergy and asthma sufferers, use scented candles without any negative effects. However, it is always possible a particular fragrance may trigger a negative reaction in sensitive individuals. People with known sensitivities to specific fragrances may wish to avoid candles of those scents. In addition, consumers should remember to burn all candles, scented or otherwise, in well-ventilated areas.

I spilled candle wax on my clothes. How do I get it out?

Note: Always test an inconspicuous area for colorfastness, etc. before treating the exposed area. Also note that certain stains are permanent.

Candle wax is resistant to water and any water soluble cleaner. And, hot wax from a candle penetrates deep into the surface. In fact, water tends to spread candle wax stains making the condition even worse. Immediate heat may spread set these stains too. For the best chances of removal, please follow these steps: Therefore, other means, such as "mechanical" or "solvency" must be used to remove the candle wax. Immediate heat, or "wet" solvency treatment may spread and set these stains. For the best chances of removal, please follow these steps:

1. Carefully scrape up (with the edge of a butter knife) or lift off as much solid "wax" as possible. Be careful not to spread the stain with this physical removal.

2. Next, place a tray full of ice cubes into a zipper type freezer bag and rest it over an affected area for several minutes. As the cold makes the wax more brittle, use the butter knife once again to scrape off any further residue. If the area is larger than ice bag, then use the same procedure systematically until entire area is treated.

3. Steps #1 & #2 are the "scraping process" (to be used again later on).

4. After this "cold" method has removed as much of the wax as possible, you should then dry these "warm-hot" methods.

5. First, use your hair dryer (on "HI" setting) to soften the wax. Once again, carefully scrape up (with the edge of a butter knife or piece of cardboard) as much solid "candle wax" matter as possible OR place a very absorbent material, such as a "thick" paper towel or napkin over affect area. Take a 'warm-hot' iron and apply over this covering. Hopefully the wax will either soften so you can repeat step 1 or liquify the wax so it will be absorbed up into material.

6. Pre-Soak stain in isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Allow to stand about 30 minutes. Agitate with a scrub brush. Rinse thoroughly with water. Once satisfied with results, allow surface to completely dry.

I haven't been burning my pillars their minimum burn time...

Now they have 1-1/2" deep wells in them. What should I do? Can I save them?
What I would do is, burn the candle at least 3 hours (the minimum burning time). Once the sides are really soft (to the point you can bend them in easily with a finger or two), extinguish the candle and then CAREFULLY use a knife to trim some of the extra wax. Don't go all the way down to the melted wax; try to cut about 1/4" - 1/2" above the melted wax. Go all around the candle keeping the cut as level/even as possible. Be careful (of course) not to spill the melted wax or cut yourself. If you do this and then continue to burn the candle at least 3 hours at each lighting along with "hugging" your candles should be just fine. If not, repeat these directions.
